Air Force Safety Center officials build awareness with family campaign

Air Force Safety Center officials here released the first public service announcement highlighting volunteer family members active in saving lives and preventing mishaps.

The center is using Airmen's families to influence behaviors as part of the safety center's campaign during the Year of the Air Force Family.

"The family is a key influencer in behavior and support to keep everyone safe," said Maj. Gen. Fred Roggero, the Air Force chief of safety. "We've got to let them know we need them working with us to help stop reckless off-duty behavior."

The Air Force loses 10 times as many Airmen off-duty than on-duty each year.

"We keep our Airmen safe through rules, regulations, policies and procedures," General Roggero said. "We aim to carry this mind-set forward to keep families safe."

The first video features the family of Staff Sgt. David De Herrera, who is assigned to the New Mexico Air National Guard 's 150th Fighter Wing at Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M. The video emphasizes the importance of family members helping the Air Force keep Airman safe when they're off-duty.

The video is available for viewing on the Air Force Safety Center Web site at http://www.afsc.af.mil.
