Fuel quality
An ignition coil is exposed over JP-8 fumes during a flash point test Dec. 8 at an air base in Southwest Asia. Staff Sgt. Ronald Gasper, a fuels lab technician assigned to the 379th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron, uses a flash tester to perform a flash point test. The flash point test is used to determine the temperature at which the fuel will ignite. The fuel is slowly warmed and every 2 degrees an ignition coil is briefly exposed over the fuel to identify how hot the fumes must be to ignite. Sergeant Gasper, a native of Omaha, Neb., is deployed from Scott Air Force Base, Ill. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Michael Boquette)
