Mr. David McGlasson, a medical technologist in the 59th Clinical Research Division at Wilford Hall Medical Center here, was notified Aug. 7 he won the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science peer-reviewed poster contest for his poster "Comparison of a Chromgenic Factor X Assay to the International Normalized Ratio for Monitoring Oral Anticoagulant Therapy." Mr. McGlasson also received the Scientific Research Award for 2008 from the ASCLS for his manuscript submission on the same subject.

This is not the first time Mr. McGlasson has been honored for his scientific contributions. He has won the Scientific Research of Year award four times.

"My research stands out because I work in an incredible setting, with outstanding individuals in the laboratory and a medical staff that has the knowledge and creativity to look for better ways of treating patients and the willingness to pursue that end by looking outside the box," said Mr. McGlasson. "It's nice to be recognized anytime in science. It sure makes it easier to get funded for the next project."

ASCLS currently has about 12,000 members and all are invited to submit their research for the competition. Mr. Glasson's research also was published in the summer 2008 issue of the Journal of Clinical Laboratory Science.

"To know that some of the things that you have accomplished are being used internationally to facilitate better patient care is quite a rush," said Mr. McGlasson.
