July 14 airpower summary: B-1Bs bomb enemy compound

Coalition airpower integrated with coalition ground forces in Iraq and International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan during operations July 14, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

In Afghanistan, Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles dropped guided bomb unit-38s and dropped a GBU-12 onto anti-Afghan forces in the vicinity of Nangalm. Furthermore, F-15Es performed a show of force to deter enemy activities. The mission was declared successful by an on-scene joint terminal attack controller.

A Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet dropped a GBU-38 onto enemy forces near Kandahar. Additionally, F/A-18Fs conducted a show of force to deter anti-Afghan activities. The mission was reported successful by a JTAC.

F/A-18Fs dropped GBU-12 and 38s onto an enemy compound, an enemy vehicle and anti-Afghan forces engaging coalition forces in the vicinity of Kandahar. An Air Force B-1B Lancer dropped GBU-31s onto an enemy compound and anti-Afghan forces engaging coalition forces. The mission was confirmed successful by a JTAC.

Near Kabul, F-15Es dropped GBU-12s onto anti-Afghan forces engaging coalition forces. A JTAC reported the mission successful.

B-1Bs dropped GBU-38 and 31s onto an enemy compound and anti-Afghan forces engaging coalition forces near Ghazni. The mission was declared successful by a JTAC.

In the vicinity of Now Zad, a B-1B dropped GBU-31 and 38s onto an enemy compound and enemy forces. A JTAC confirmed the mission successful.

Navy F/A-18 Hornets performed shows of force to deter enemy activities in the vicinity of Gereshk and Sangin. The missions were reported successful by JTACs. 

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs conducted a show of force to deter anti-Afghan forces in the vicinity of Bari Kowt.  A JTAC declared the mission successful.

In total, 71 close-air-support missions were flown as part of the ISAF and Afghan National Security Forces, reconstruction activities and route patrols.

Twelve Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Afghanistan. Additionally, four Navy aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance.

In Iraq, coalition aircraft flew 51 close-air-support missions for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions integrated and synchronized with coalition ground forces, protected key infrastructure, provided overwatch for reconstruction activities and helped to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.

Twenty-four Air Force and Navy ISR aircraft flew missions as part of operations in Iraq. Additionally, four Air Force and Royal Air Force aircraft performed tactical reconnaissance. 

Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift, helping to sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa.

Approximately 149 airlift sorties were flown, 754 tons of cargo delivered and 2,418 passengers were transported. This included approximately 14,440 pounds of troop re-supply airdropped in Afghanistan.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and Iraq flew as part of operations in Afghanistan or Iraq.

On July 13,  Air Force, French, RAF and Singaporean tanker crews flew 52 sorties and off-loaded approximately 2.8 million pounds of fuel to 220 receiving aircraft.
