Air Force Clubs award $36,000 in scholarships Published June 29, 2017 By Shannon Carabajal AFCEC Public Affairs JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas (AFNS) -- The Air Force Services Activity has awarded $36,000 in scholarships to 10 Air Force Club members or their family members. The 2017 Air Force Club Scholarship Program offered five scholarships to each of two groups: traditional and nontraditional. A traditional entrant is a 2017 high school graduating senior registered at an accredited college or university. A nontraditional entrant has received a GED or graduated from high school and is currently enrolled or registered at an accredited college or university. A panel of judges scored submissions, written or video essays highlighting a time when the applicant was tested to live up to the Air Force core values of integrity first, service before self and excellence in all we do. “Every year, I am inspired by the remarkable Air Force stories told through the submissions we receive,” said Jonathan Boyd, the AFSVA club operations branch chief. This year AFSVA increased the award amounts and number of awards within each group. The first-place award winners in each category receive a $7,000 scholarship; second place, $5,000; third place, $3,000; fourth place, $2,000; and honorable mention, $1,000.
