Accident investigation board convenes for fatal T-38 crash

General William R. Looney III, commander of Air Education and Training Command, has convened an accident investigation board to investigate the T-38C Talon crash that killed two Airmen at Sheppard Air Force Base May 1.

Col. Richard Haddad of 23rd Air Force, Hurlburt Field, Fla., will chair the accident investigation board.

In addition to reporting factual information in the publicly-releasable report, Colonel Haddad is required to provide his opinion concerning the cause or causes of the accident and describe any factors that may have substantially contributed to the accident.

After the report has been approved by the AETC commander, it will be presented to the family of each of the pilots who died in the crash. When the family has been personally informed, the report will be released to the general public.

Instructor pilot Maj. Brad T. Funk and student pilot 2nd Lt. Alec F. Littler were killed when their T-38C Talon crashed during a routine training flight.

Information regarding the status of the investigation will not be released until it is complete.
