The Air Force Academy scored one goal in each period for a 3-1 win over Bentley College in an Atlantic Hockey Association game Oct. 27, at the John A. Ryan Arena in Waltham, Mass. The two teams split the AHA series.

The Academy improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the AHA. Bentley fell to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the AHA.

Bentley jumped up early when Dustin Cloutier scored at the 9:05 mark. Erik Peterson made a wrap around pass to Cloutier in front for his first tally of the season. The Falcons answered at the 14:29 mark when Mike Phillipich scored his third of the year. Greg Flynn took a shot from the point that hit Michael Mayra down low. The puck came out to Phillipich in the slot who beat BC goalie Joe Calvi.

Early in the second period, the Falcons capitalized on a five-minute major penalty for checking from behind on Bentley's Jaye Judd. At the 3:31 mark with the Falcons on the power play, Eric Ehn collected a puck in his own end and started the play up the ice. Ehn made a pass through the neutral zone to Michael Mayra at the blue line. Mayra fed Jeff Hajner at the far circle and Hajner's one timer gave AFA a 2-1 lead at the 3:31 mark.

Brett Nylander gave the Academy a two-goal lead with 3:14 remaining in the third period. Freshman Derrick Burnett skated the puck behind the Bentley net and found Nylander in front of the goal. Nylander's shot beat Calvi for a 3-1 Falcons lead. Ehn also picked up an assist on the play. Bentley pulled its goalie for the final 92 seconds and had the puck in the zone nearly the entire time. Bentley had three shots on goal, but Falcon goalie Andrew Volkening kept the net clean.

Bentley out-shot the Academy, 25-24. The Falcons were 1-for-6 on the power play while Bentley was 0-for-2. Volkening made 24 saves for the Falcons while Calvi made 21.

The Academy returns home for a two-game league series with Mercyhurst Nov. 2 and 3 at the Cadet Ice Arena.
