In response to runners' requests, Air Force Marathon race officials here have adjusted awards categories for this year's half-marathon race so they are in five-year age increments, rather than 10.

The change is part of a growing list of new elements for this year's Air Force 60th Anniversary event, to be held Sept. 15 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

"There can be a big difference between a 40- and a 49-year-old running a race," said Molly Louden, the marathon director. "We decided this year to space the awards five years apart, rather than 10. We can recognize more runners this way and it will add to the competitive elements of this year's half-marathon event."

All participants completing the race will receive a commemorative 60th Anniversary finisher's medal. Winners in each age category also will receive uniquely designed awards recognizing their achievements.

Other new race elements include continuous aircraft flight demonstrations throughout the race, the rerouting of the course to include the city of Fairborn, and the change of date and venue for the Air Force Marathon's five-kilometer race, which will be run Sept. 14 on the campus of neighboring Wright State University.
