Air Force Recruiting Service announced the National Football League's Indianapolis Colts and the Manchester (N.H.) Wolves of the Arena 2 Football League as winner's of the command's prestigious American Spirit Award May 1.

The American Spirit Award is Air Force Recruiting Service's highest form of recognition. Started in 1980, it recognizes civilian organizations that have consistently displayed outstanding support of Air Force recruiting efforts as well as exhibition of patriotism and service to the country. Past award recipients include Bob Hope, Rudolph Giuliani, Dolly Parton, Ted Turner and the Dallas Cowboys football team.

"Both the Colts and the Wolves organizations have shown incredible continued support to the Air Force and to our recruiting efforts," said Brig. Gen. Suzanne Vautrinot, AFRS commander. "They are to be applauded for their sustained excellence both on the field and in their communities."

The Super Bowl XLI champion Colts have worked closely with AFRS for many years. This year, the team started the "Colts in Motion Tour," an interactive marketing campaign in which Colts players and cheerleaders hit the road with Air Force recruiters to promote community awareness. The organization also entered into a premium advertising agreement with the Air Force and provided autographed memorabilia for AFRS events.

Manchester, which competes in an indoor football developmental league, engineered a multi-faceted Air Force marketing campaign using print, radio, audiovisual and promotional products. Allowing nearly unlimited access to Air Force recruiters at all home games, the Wolves incorporated the Air Force into all of its programs, including its "Stay in School" community project and Delayed Entry Program ceremonies.
