Every year the oldest city in Germany hosts the World Day of Peace -- a festival dedicated to prayer and services focused on healing the rifts between cultures.

Military members from Belgium, Luxembourg, France, the Netherlands and the United States attended a prayer service April 26 led by the Bishop of Trier.

After sharing a meal, they took tours of the city. Since 2000, event coordinators have included a soldier day as part of the festivities.

"It (the ceremony) was very moving," said Senior Airman Sophia Dobbins, a postal services clerk from Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. "You see people from different backgrounds, religions and cultures gathering in one place to pray for the same thing -- world peace. It's awe inspiring. There is really no other way to describe it."
