Two new sections are being added to senior noncommissioned officer evaluation briefs to give a snap shot of a person's career for promotion boards.

Beginning with the Chief Master Sergeant Evaluation Board in October 2007, deployment and assignment histories will be included on all evaluation briefs of senior NCOs competing for promotion.

The additions are already considered on officer pre-selection briefs.

The Air Force chief of staff-directed changes are designed to give "snap shot" information to board members to allow them to more efficiently review records. Deployment information is already included in performance reports and decorations and is currently being considered by board members.

Previously, system constraints kept the information from being added, but recent programming changes have been made to display a summary of deployments for those senior NCOs who have deployed.

The deployment section will contain inclusive dates and whether the deployment was in the continental United States or overseas during the senior NCOs' last six deployments since 9/11.

Not every senior NCO has the opportunity to deploy, officials said, and evaluation board members will be advised to consider the information in the context of the candidate's entire record. The deployment information will not be viewed as a "pass-fail" criterion.

Officials remind senior NCOs that they are still competing within their own career field against peers with similar experiences and opportunities over the course of their careers.

The new section on assignment history will list the candidate's assignment covering the previous 10 years. It will include the date of assignment, career field, duty title, unit, base and organizational level of the unit.

The assignment information is already available on the 10 years worth of enlisted performance reports included in candidates' board packages. The change will put the information on one page with other critical information to make the package evaluation process more efficient for board members.

The two new sections will be included with information already on the brief. Current sections include the candidate's identity, specialty code, grade, service and duty data, as well as, point-awarding decorations, academic education history and whether or not the candidate has completed the Senior NCO Academy.

Each senior NCO is responsible for verifying the accuracy of their records, to include deployment and assignment history. Officials encourage senior NCOs meeting an evaluation board to review there selection folders to ensure accuracy. Selection folders may be requested by sending an e-mail to records.review@randolph.af.mil.
