'Week in Photos' highlights Airmen around the world

The "Week In Photos" Web featured on Air Force Link provides visitors photos that feature the Air Force's missions.

Staff Sgt. Irene Noriega assigned to the 62nd Airlift Wing at McChord Air Force Base, Wash., pedals 'til it burns as she participates in a cardiovascular workout spin class March 9 at the McChord fitness center annex. "Spinning" class allows Airmen the flexibility to go at their own pace while avoiding the elements of outdoors.

On the other side of the world in Afghanistan, Tech. Sgt. Shelly Ward, Master Sgt. Shane Enos and Marine Maj. Shawn Haney distribute school supplies to children at a school in downtown Kabul. The team from the Combined Security Transition Command were part of a volunteer community relations event. More than 5 million children attend school in Afghanistan now since the Taliban was ousted from power in late 2001. When the Taliban government was in power less than 1 million children attended school and then it was only boys who could attend classes.

Rebuilding Afghanistan is integral to fighting the war on terrorism and the key to that is a strong and capable national army in the country. Senior Master Sgt. Robert Spaulding shows Afghan National Army Capt. Abdul Rahman, the mechanics of an M-16 and how to view the target through the optical scope March 14. Sergeant Spaulding is deployed from the 4th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base, N.C.

In the midst of March Madness, the U.S. Air Force Academy men's basketball team, the Falcons, in its first appearance ever in the National Invitational Tournament, advanced to the second round of play after defeating Austin Peay 75-51. Air Force Falcons center Nich Welch is fouled by Austin Peay defender Duran Roberson as he drives to the basket March 14.
