Each year an average of 30,000 packages pass through the Cargo Movement Center's inbound section helping ensure Ramstein Air Base runs smoothly.

Nestled on Ramstein's southside is a large warehouse. It is the home of the inbound section and just down the road from Ramstein's flightline.

"We touch every aircraft part coming in," said inbound section supervisor Manfred Huether. "We track them. We trace them. We process them obviously quickly. Give them to our colleagues in the material flight so they can rush them down to the maintenance facility."

The inbound section works with Ramstein's three wings and all the tenant units. That keeps the 50 or so Airmen and civilians who work there busy. During the course of a year the inbound section receives around 30,000 shipments.

Those shipments don't make it from Point A to Point B by chance. At the inbound section they rely on computers.

"Of course, the transportation business is changing fast," Mr. Huether said. "You have to stay on top of things, especially with computers. We try hard to do that."

The new computerized transit system is a system the European Community requires receive custom bonded cargo.
