An Air Force Academy freshman was named Gymnast of the Week by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation for the week ending Jan. 15, league officials announced Jan. 23.

During the Falcons' season opener with the 17th-ranked Denver University Pioneers Jan. 13, Michelle Denise, of Kennewick, Wash., tallied the team's top scores on the vault (9.200) and floor (9.300), while accounting for the second-highest score on the uneven bars (9.200). Denise was one of four newcomers to score matching 9.200 scores on the vault, finishing in a team-best tie for seventh. In addition, Denise matched the Falcons' best individual event placement of the night, as she finished sixth on the floor exercise.

After a week off from competition, the Falcons return to action Jan. 27 when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., for a triangular meet with the Pittsburgh Panthers and New Hampshire Wildcats.
