DLPT 5 now official 'test of record' for 14 languages

  • Published
The Department of Defense has made the Defense Language Proficiency Test 5 the official "test of record" for 14 languages effective Jan. 1.

The affected languages are: Albanian, Chinese Mandarin, Dari, Greek, Hindi, Iraqi, Korean, Modern Standard Arabic, Norwegian, Pashto, Persian Farsi (lower range only), Russian, Spanish, and Urdu.

To permit a smooth transition, DOD gave the armed forces an option to recertify military and civilian personnel for an additional period using scores from the last recorded DLPT if the person does not perform at the same or higher level on DLPT 5.

The Air Force senior language authority, Brig. Gen. Robert Allardice, AF/A1D, adopted the waiver policy.
