Medical team goes extra mile for wounded servicemembers

  • Published
The importance of the aeromedical evacuation mission cannot be overstated, with aerovac crew members providing advanced life-saving care to wounded servicemembers.

Even with providing this care, crew members often go above and beyond to help out their patients. That's how the "Treats for Troops" program began.

Before receiving their patients from down range, Airmen from the 791st Expeditionary Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron took a trip to the commissary. Their mission: Buy food for the patients to make their trip to Germany more comfortable.

"When we load them on, (the patients) usually come on with a bottle of water and an MRE, enough to get them through the flight," said 1st Lieutenant John Rinaldo, a flight nurse. "But these guys are heroes so we want to treat them to a little more."

The cinnamon rolls, coffee and sausage biscuits may seem like a small thing, but wounded servicemembers are appreciative of the little taste of home.
