A group of Airmen here are taking a break from their holiday hustle and bustle to make a special trip and grant Christmas wishes for others.

More than a dozen Airmen from the 6th Special Operations Squadron, 15th SOS and 73rd SOS travel Dec. 11 to La Ceiba, Honduras, to carry out Operation Christmas Wish.

The focus of the operation is delivering toys and supplies to Honduran orphans who would otherwise not have much to look forward to.

"This year, we have three pallets full of individual gift boxes for each child," said Capt. Pedro Cuadra, 6th SOS. "We're also taking other items the orphanages need like a stove and wheelchairs. All together, we're going to be delivering more than 10,000 pounds of Christmas cheer."

The supplies will be distributed to six orphanages Dec. 11-14, helping more than 800 children.

Operation Christmas Wish originated in 1992 and has carried on ever since.

The operation is a joint venture between the 1st Special Operations Wing, Air Force Special Operations Command, Air Commando Association, McCoskrie Threshold Foundation and Denton Program.
