JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. (AFNS) --
The Air Force Review Boards Agency is changing the process by which Airmen, their families and veterans submit some applications for formal board consideration.
For those wishing there were easier ways to submit applications to the AFRBA, your voice is heard. Moving away from the traditional paper-only application method, effective immediately, those seeking to submit applications to the Air Force Board for Correction of Military Records, the Air Force Discharge Review Board and the DOD Physical Disability Board of Review can formally submit applications electronically via email with expanded electronic “drop box” capability expected in September 2017 and additional web-based options available in the future.
“In a technologically-advanced age, when so much of what we accomplish in our lives and careers is done online, we felt that the agency needed to catch up and streamline its processes to make applicants’ lives easier,” said Mark Teskey, the Air Force Review Boards Agency director.
Teskey noted that despite the changes, the agency will still accept paper application packages for those preferring traditional delivery methods. However, he reiterated no matter which method applicants choose, the appropriate DOD form must be signed, either by wet signature or electronically, and the agency may require additional validation of applicant signatures.
The non-statutory Air Force review boards adjudicate a wide-variety of decisions on behalf of the secretary of the Air Force and are comprised of 10 appellate-level administrative review boards (eight on behalf of the secretary of the Air Force and two on behalf of the secretary of Defense). The AFRBA receives approximately 15,000 cases annually from actively-serving total force Airmen (active duty, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve and civilian employees), veterans and their families.
