The winners of the 2005 Omaha Trophy awards were announced by U.S. Strategic Command officials today.

The results are as follows:

-- Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Trophy: 90th Space Wing, F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo.

-- Strategic Aircraft Operations Trophy: 5th Bomb Wing, Minot AFB, N.D.

-- Submarine Ballistic Missile Trophy: USS Alaska, Naval Base Kitsap, Wash.

-- Strategic Space and Information Operations Trophy: Joint Space Operations Center, Vandenberg AFB, Calif.

The awards are presented annually to assigned units demonstrating the highest standards of performance. Selection for the awards are based on formal evaluations, meritorious achievement, safety and other factors such as community involvement and humanitarian actions.

The Omaha Trophy was presented to the Strategic Air Command in 1971 on behalf of the citizens of Omaha, Neb., by the SAC Consultation Committee, with the request that it be awarded annually to the outstanding SAC wing. From 1992 to 1997, two categories were created -- one for an aircraft unit and one for a ballistic missile unit.

In 1998, the Omaha Trophy was expanded to three categories: intercontinental ballistic missile, submarine ballistic missile and strategic aircraft operations. A fourth category in strategic space and information operations was added in 2003.
