Sports recap: Falcon baseballers feel Utah broom Published April 12, 2005 SAN ANTONIO (AFPN) -- The Air Force Academy Falcon baseball team had a rough weekend at the hands of the University of Utah Utes. After dropping a close game April 8, losing 8-5, the Falcons lost a pair the following day by somewhat larger margins. In the first game of the April 9 doubleheader, the Utes pounded out 22 hits during the 22-3 win. The Falcons had six hits in that game. In the second game, Utah set a Mountain West Conference record for most runs and hits in a game, cranking out 34 hits and ending the game in marathon fashion with 13 runs in the final inning to win 32-4. The academy managed four hits in the game. The Falcons are now 5-23 overall and 0-9 in the conference.In other sports news, the Falcon lacrosse team lost a heartbreaker in overtime to No. 11-ranked University of Notre Dame, 14-13. During the match, played April 10, the two teams traded leads several times before the clock ran out. After Notre Dame was unable to convert on a few shots from close range, the Falcons had their opportunity to win it, getting a pair of shots on goal. The Irish goalie made two crucial saves, and the offense took advantage of the possession to score the winning goal. The Falcons are now 3-5 on the season.
