The Jan. 3 edition of Air Force Television News is a special production of the program dedicated to the Airmen involved in Operation Enduring Freedom. Produced and coanchored by Tech. Sgts. Pachari Lutke and Joy Josephson, the program examines the continuing role of the Air Force in that operation.

In the first segment, Sergeant Josephson goes along on a supply mission, one of the vital aspects of providing troops with what they need to continue the flight. The C-130 Hercules missions are flown by Air National Guardsmen. On the ground, Sergeant Lutke profiles the work of Airmen who guard base perimeters, keeping those who work inside safe. Sergeant Josephson also spends time with a combat search and rescue unit to illustrate its role in Operation Enduring Freedom.

In the second segment, Sergeant Josephson reports on the work of A-10 Thunderbolt II crews and how they protect coalition troops. In a related story, Sergeant Lutke shows how forward-air controllers supplement the work of the A-10s, making sure the bombs fall where they are supposed to. Then, Sergeant Josephson reports on how Airmen are coping with the continual problem of stress in the area.

In the final segment, they examine the medical and humanitarian aspects of the operation in Afghanistan and surrounding countries. Sergeant Lutke goes inside the hospital at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, to show how the wounded -- military, civilian, friendly and enemy -- are treated. Sergeant Josephson profiles an Air Force flight surgeon whose daily duties extend far beyond his chosen career field. And finally, Sergeant Lutke tells the story of an unselfish Airman who has dedicated herself to helping some children in Kyrgyzstan.
