The Cold War and Vietnam legacies of the B-52 Stratofortress highlight the latest edition of Air Force Television News. Staff Sgt. Leigh Bellinger traces the history of the bomber during its half century of service in the Air Force, including its significant role in both wars against Iraq, and its use in Afghanistan.

Sergeant Bellinger interviews the man who delivered the first Stratofortress to the Air Force and examines 21st century technology for the aircraft that is expected to keep it in the service’s inventory until the year 2050.

Staff Sgt. Melissa Allan reports on Air Combat Command in an ongoing special segment of the program that examines the role of each major command in the Air Force and its contribution to the Air Force mission. She talks extensively with the ACC commander, Gen. Hal M. Hornburg, who commends the more than 170,000 active-duty and reserve-component people in ACC and the contribution they make to the command.

Tech. Sgt. Rusty Barfield explores the increased use of the C-17 Globemaster III in the Pacific. He covers the groundbreaking of a hangar and other buildings that will be assigned to the contingent of eight C-17’s at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. Eight others will be located at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. The C-17 addition to the Pacific theater is part of an increase in the Air Force presence in the region.

Tech. Sgt. Bill Scherer visits Barnes Air National Guard Base, Mass., to show an update for the A-10 Thunderbolt II that will make the Warthog even more lethal.

Staff Sgt. Michael Noel previews the new Air Force television commercials that will target three goals: recruiting, retention and the Air Force image.

Staff Sgt. April Lawrence details a special report designed to look at how the Air Force continues to address the problem of sexual assaults. The report shows how the service has faced the problem and what it is doing to eradicate sexual assault.

Secretary of the Air Force Dr. James G. Roche, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. John P. Jumper and Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Gerald R. Murray discuss important issues facing Airmen ranging from the service’s increased commitment to space and missile defense to uniform wear-testing and improved base housing.

Finally, Staff Sgt. John Lawrence profiles an enlisted aide assigned to General Jumper. Senior Master Sgt. Thomas Connolly is the household manager at Air House, the Air Force chief of staff’s official residence. He recently was selected as the best of his kind, in and out of the military.
