(AFPN) -- The Air Force Academy women's tennis team closed out its 2004 regular season April 18 with a 7-0 loss here to Mountain West Conference champion University of New Mexico. The Falcons finish the season with a 13-12 overall record and a 1-6 mark in the conference. New Mexico ended the season 18-3 overall and was a perfect 7-0 in league play.Despite winning the No. 1 doubles match, Air Force lost the doubles point. Academy seniors Laura Nigro and Gina Black improved to 13-6 with an 8-6 victory over Maja Kovacek and Sandy Lukowski. New Mexico took the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Iva Gersic and Maria Ruiz-Fabrega won at No. 2, 8-1, over sophomore Kat Bushey and freshman Karissa Walker, while the Lobos' No. 3 team of Tiffany Robertson and Michelle Heidbrink beat Miclynn Crail and Liza Vacarro, 8-2.New Mexico cruised through the six singles matches without losing a set. Kovacek avenged her doubles loss with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Nigro at No. 1. Gersic followed suit, shutting out Bushey at the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-0. The closest match was at the No. 4 position, where Heidbrink defeated Black, 7-5, 6-3.Air Force also fell to University of Nevada, Las Vegas, 5-2, on April 18.Air Force plays next at the conference championships, which begin April 29 in San Diego.
