The growing effect long activations are having on reservists and Air National Guardsmen spotlights the latest edition of Air Force Television News. Staff Sgt. Melissa Allan visits a reservist at Andrews Air Force Base, Md., whose family is trying to decide if re-enlistment is an option because of increased activation of reservists and guardsmen for long periods of time.

Staff Sgt. Marty Rush is at Nellis AFB, Nev., with an update on the 21st century aircraft destined to replace the F-15 Eagle -- the F/A-22 Raptor. Sergeant Rush focuses on the progress being made in making the aircraft a part of the service’s inventory by 2005, and talks to the pilot who delivered the first Raptor to Nellis.

The transformation of Brooks AFB, Texas, to Brooks City-Base is the subject of an Eye on the Air Force in this edition of the program. Tech. Sgt. Angie Pianga explores the innovative approach to Air Force, local government, private industry and education cooperation at the San Antonio facility. She talks to political leaders at the state and national level, as well as Air Force senior leaders about how changing the base has benefited both the service and the private and educational sectors.

Tech. Sgt. Bill Scherer goes to Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, to examine one of the largest single efforts in the Air Force to use privatization as an alternate to the old method of military construction to replace and repair base housing. Sergeant Scherer found out the new approach not only saves money but also dramatically reduces the time it takes for construction.

Staff Sgt. John Anderson has a story on the potential gift of life one Air Force captain is giving to an unidentified cancer patient. Capt. Brent Davis is a member of the Defense Department’s bone marrow donor program. Sergeant Anderson talks to Captain Davis about his participation in the program, and goes inside the operating room as the captain donates a part of him that he hopes will save a young man’s life.

Staff Sgt. Joe Wallace looks at military life before basic training. Sergeant Wallace visits a Military Entrance Processing Station at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, to explore the steps a potential recruit must take before he or she takes the oath and begins life in the Air Force at Lackland AFB, Texas.

Finally, Staff Sgt. Kevin Dennison found that a career in the Air Force is not all work and no play. Sergeant Dennison has the enviable task of visiting Rocky Mountain Blue in Colorado, a private resort that has an agreement with the DOD to provide discounted vacation packages year-round. Sergeant Dennison says the Colorado resort is the United States equivalent to a similar one in Garmisch, Germany, that servicemembers and their families have been enjoying for decades.
