SANDSTON, Va. (AFPN) -- Darby Hill, whose drawing of the American flag and the words "Thank you" inspired Virginia Air National Guard's 192nd Fighter Wing in the weeks following the attacks of Sept. 11, was honored Sept. 6 by the unit at its headquarters in Richmond, Va.
Dropped off at the gate days after the terrorist attack, the drawing had been given to Col. Steve Hicks, the base commander. He had it framed and hung in the 192nd FW headquarters building, where it boosted morale in the hectic weeks that followed the attacks.
Nearly a year later, it was the 192nd FW's turn to give a special thank-you to the artist. The first grader and her family were escorted around the 192nd FW hangar.
