This mission marked a retrograde milestone as the 774th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron transported the last cargo from FOB Sharana before the base is transferred to the Afghan Ministry of Defense. Sidders, a Peoria, Ill. native, is deployed from the Wyoming Air National Guard. Sidders is a 774th EAS loadmaster.

The fighter wing is back to combat-ready status after more than three months of flying reduced hours during sequestration. The sequester forced one squadron to stand down completely, and its sister-squadron to fly drastically reduced hours.

Staff Sgt. Matthew Krause fires his M-4 rifle during a demonstration exercise Oct. 16, 2013, at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. Approximately 1,500 active-duty, Reserve and National Guard Airmen attend the squadronÕs "Brave Defender" training each year. "Defender" is a six-week deployment training course for security forces Airmen. It is one of only six SF deployment training courses in the U.S. The course opened here in 2002 and was established by Air Force Materiel Command to satisfy security forces training requirements in an expeditionary environment. Krause is assigned to the 96th Ground Combat Training Squadron.
