The Kadena Air Base Youth Programs' Teen Council earned $5,000 with an original video focused on helping military dependents transition during permanent changes of station, announced Air Force Personnel Center officials.

The grant will go toward quality improvements for the base teen program.

Second place went to the Minot Air Force Base teen center, earning them a $3,000 grant, and the Edwards AFB teen center took home third, earning $2,000 for youth program improvements.

"We were looking for the most informational and beneficial video for transitioning teens and families," said Chett Kline, Air Force Teen Council advisor.

A total of 25 videos were submitted for the fifth quarterly teen video contest. Entries are posted on the Air Force Teen Council Facebook page (www.facebook.com/airforceteens) and on individual youth center YouTube sites.

The contest was developed to encourage teenage members of Air Force installations, teen councils and other teen leadership groups to share what makes their youth and teen centers stand out from the rest of the Air Force. The contest is also an opportunity to challenge the participating groups' creativity and teamwork.

The competition was set to coincide with the quarterly AFTC teen movement project called "Come On, Let's Go," Kline said.

"The program focuses on providing PCSing teens with a great welcome to their new home," he said. "These videos ultimately will be a way for teens to feel more comfortable with a move because they'll already know some of the teens, staff and great activities that happen at the teen center where they're moving."

The contest also encouraged Airmen and the Air Force community to work together to support youth programs and build a stronger installation community, said Kline.
