Guard firefighters assist after deadly tornado strikes

  • Published
Ten firefighters and three vehicles with the Illinois Air National Guard’s 182nd Airlift Wing responded to Washington, Ill., Nov. 17, after at least six people died and 54 others were injured by a series of tornadoes that battered central Illinois.

The wing’s firefighters searched and cleared 30 homes for possible victims and assisted at a secondary staging area, receiving food and water in the hardest-hit area, officials said.

All personnel and equipment have returned to home station and no further National Guard involvement is anticipated, officials said in a situation report issued Nov. 18.
