WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James was the keynote speaker for the PenFed Foundation’s Night of Heroes Gala, here, May 14 and was presented the American Hero Award by the nineteenth Chief of Staff of the Air Force, retired General Norton A. Schwartz,  for her 30 years of work in the private and government sectors.

James has been in office since December and is responsible for organizing, training, equipping and providing for the welfare of more than 690,000 active-duty, Guard, Reserve and civilian Airmen and their families.
