A select number of Airmen from the Air Force’s ninth volume of Portraits in Courage told their stories to a group of Air Force civic leaders from around the country, during a luncheon Feb. 4 in Arlington, Virginia.

Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James Cody gave the keynote address during a luncheon.

The 19 Airmen and one representative were part of the 24 selected for this year’s Portraits in Courage -- an Air Force program highlighting Airmen for their honor, valor, devotion and selfless sacrifice in the face of extreme danger to themselves and others.

The recipients represent multiple commands and career fields including medical, pararescue, explosive ordnance disposal and others.

To date, the Air Force has recognized 199 Airmen through this project.
