2015 DOD Warrior Games to begin June 19

The opening ceremony for the 2015 Department of Defense Warrior Games is scheduled for 11 a.m. EDT, June 19, at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia.

The Air Force will be represented by 40 team members and five alternates, including 22 active-duty and 23 retired or separated Airmen.

The historic opening ceremony will mark the commencement of the first DOD-led Warrior Games competition. The event will include opening remarks from Defense Secretary Ash Carter and will be attended by senior military and government leaders from across the National Capital Region. The opening ceremony will be livestreamed on Defense TV and Defense.gov.

Admission to the Warrior Games, including the opening ceremony, is open to the public. However, access will be limited and registration is required through Cvent. It is recommended that all spectators, guests and media representatives arrive at least two hours prior to the event in order to ensure timely access to the event site.

The event will showcase the resiliency and fighting spirit of our service members and veterans, and will highlight 270 of the finest athletes from all military branches and the British armed forces, as well as the faithful support of their caregivers, families and the Military Adaptive Sports Program.
