The members of the Fort Riley Spouses Club raised money during their annual Make it, Bake it, Fake it luncheon at Riley’s Conference Center Nov. 19. The money they raised will help fund local scholarships.

During the luncheon, members were able to take part in a raffle where they purchased tickets and put them toward items people made, baked or bought to bring to the luncheon.

“So we have the members bring in something that they make, bake or faked as in they bought it,” said Lisa Hatt, technology chair and wife of Sgt. 1st Class Richard Hatt, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. “This is our big fundraiser for the fall. These funds go toward scholarships and this serves Fort Riley and the families.”

After lunch, attendees bid on baskets donated by the coffee groups of the different units on post. Many of the baskets were themed and the members found the one they thought was perfect for them, and put money toward a good cause.

“I enjoy seeing the creativity of each of the different displays,” said Kelly Croom, wife of Chaplain (Col.) Keith Croom, Garrison chaplain. “What I like the most about this organization, and this event especially, is that the money is going toward scholarships of kids and spouses of Soldiers.”

Also during the luncheon, Misty Waits, second vice president and wife of Warrant Officer Brian Waits, 101st Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, presented a check for more than $1,000 to Marcia Locke, Communication and outreach coordinator of the Kansas State University Johnson Cancer Research Center. Members raised money for the center through their October fundraising events.
