Straight 'chute' to safety
Master Sgt. Thomas Scheving begins his descent in a Baker Life Chute from the catwalk of the Dover Air Force Base, Del., air traffic control tower March 8 during a fire drill. The chute was installed to allow controllers a safe descent to the ground in the event of an emergency. Once in the chute, the person keeps his body straight, hands overhead, and controls the rate of descent with his feet. Sergeant Scheving is the chief tower controller with the 436th Operations Support Squadron. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Kevin Wallace)
