AIR FORCE PHOTOS

Pioneers in Blue

Retired Lt. Col. Jay Hess served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1973 as a pilot and a prisoner of war. Colonel Hess is featured in "Pioneers in Blue," a portrait display inside the Pentagon, which launched Sept. 18, 2010. The project is sponsored by the Air Force Public Affairs Agency, and features portraits of 38 veterans from different career fields and backgrounds who have contributed to the greatness of the Air Force. The portraits will be on display in the Pentagon for about a year, and a second mini-set of the top 10 portraits also will be displayed for 2 to 3 months in the Library of Congress.
