Secretary Donley announces location of newest Fisher House
Nancy Berglass addresses the audience at a ceremony to present her the Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award at the Pentagon's Hall of Heroes Jan. 28, 2010, in Washington, D.C. The multidepartmental award was established in 1996 and is presented to those exemplifying personal qualities of patriotism, generosity, and selfless dedication to improving the quality of life of members of the armed forces of the United States. Ms. Berglass serves as lead consultant with the California Community Foundation's Iraq/Afghanistan Deployment Impact Fund. She is credited with distributing more than $245 million to 46 non-profit organizations that provide support services and programs to military members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and their families. Her efforts through IADIF included providing $2.2 million to assist in creating the Intrepid Center, rehabilitation and training facility at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio for amputee and burn patients.
