CRW Assessment Team evaluates cargo solutions for stakeholders in Afghanistan
A dynamic cone penetrometer is used to measure the soil subsurface strength of the airfield at Forward Operating Base Farah, Afghanistan, Dec. 2, 2009. The soil analysis along with airfield gradient measurements will be part of a complete report compiled by an Air Force airfield assessment team from the 621st Contingency Response Wing at Joint Base McGuire, N.J. The team of 12 Airmen deployed to Afghanistan for a 45-day tour to visit all established airfields with a major military presence with the goal of helping the International Security Assistance Force commander understand how to get more people and cargo into the war zone and then sustain those forces once they are in place.
