Flight safety office brings Balad bird strikes down 30 percent

Two F-16 Fighting Falcons taxi out on the runway as a flock of small birds fly over them in November at Balad Air Base, Iraq. Last year alone bird strikes caused $42 million in damage to Air Force aircraft. The 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing flight safety office, with support of base volunteers, has helped reduced the number of bird strikes by 30 percent. (U.S. Air Force photo/Master Sgt. John Nimmo Sr.)
