Navigation aids keep F-15s on course

Senior Airman Nelson Santiago performs an hourly check on a portable tactical navigation aid during Exercise Salitre, a Chilean-led multinational exercise focused on interoperability between Chile, the United States, France, Argentina and Brazil Oct. 23, 2009, in Iquique, Chile. The TACAN allows U.S. F-15 Eagle pilots to locate the two operating airfields involved in the exercise and orient themselves for landing. The TACAN is typically used by combat controllers to establish airfields in austere environments. Airman Santiago is a 23rd Special Tactics Squadron airfield systems technician.
