Panjshir PRT
Donkeys loaded with medical supplies and humanitarian aid accompany members of the Panjshir Provincial Reconstruction Team Aug. 7. PRT members made an 11-mile round-trip trek over a mountain pass and into a river valley to provide medical care to Afghans living in Roydara village in the Shutol district of Panjshir province, Afghanistan. The Panjshir PRT stood up in 2005 and is directed by Ben Lowenthal from the U.S. State Department. Housed at Forward Operating Base Lion in the Hindu Kush mountains, the 40-member team interfaces with a population of approximately 300,000 Afghans spread across 1,393 square miles in six provinces.
