Forward Operating Location Manta closes, officials donate items to local community

Lt. Col. Jared Curtis (center) stands with local citizens in front of an ambulance donated to an organization Sept. 16, 2009, near Forward Operating Location Manta, Ecuador. To mark the end of 10 years of community relations activities, American military officials donated almost $1 million worth of equipment, food and supplies to local establishments. The forward operating location was deactivated Sept. 18 after a lease between the United States and Ecuador expired. Colonel Curtis is the 478th Expeditionary Operations Squadron commander.
