School honors fallen Airman, former student
David Carlisle hangs a flag above a commemorative plaque hung in the memory of Maj. Troy Gilbert April 5 at Bitburg High School near Spangdhalem Air Base, Germany. Major Gilbert was a BHS graduate. He was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom when he lost his life when his F-16 Fighting Falcon crashed Nov. 27, 2006, 20 miles northwest of Baghdad. Major Gilbert was on a mission providing combat support to both an Army helicopter crew that had crashed and ground forces trying to reach the crash site in the Anbar Province, 20 miles northwest of Baghdad.
