First JPADS airdrop over Iraq a success

Using the Joint Precision Airdrop System in combination with the Improved Container Delivery System, a C-130 Hercules aircrew was able to drop cargo at higher altitudes with improved accuracy over Iraq Feb. 16. This wind sonde device, part of the JPADS, is dropped at high altitudes over a drop zone to measure winds prior to an actual cargo drop. This allows C-130 aircrews to drop cargo at safe distances from enemy fire. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Cecilio M. Ricardo Jr.)
