Hero's Highway begins in Iraq
Airmen deployed to the 332nd Expeditionary Medical Group rush the first litter patient seeking medical treatment down Hero's Highway after posting the American flag Jan. 22 at Balad Air Base, Iraq. The flag is posted on the inner roof a tent so injured troops can look up and know they are in an American area when brought in on litters seeking medical treatment. The medical group raised injured troops' survival rate to 98 percent. (U. S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Nathan Doza)
