Training to fight fires together

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base firefighters put out a fire by the use of foam at a simulated crash site of a C-17 Globemaster III Dec. 4 at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz. Exercise Vigilant Shield 07 is a joint Department of Defense and federal nuclear weapon accident exercise. The exercise scenario involved a C-17 carrying four nuclear weapons to be diverted to Davis-Monthan AFB due to simulated engine failure that caused an aircraft accident. Davis-Monthan firefighters, the Tucson Fire Department, Tucson Police Department, and many different agencies ranging form local to national levels responded to the simulated scene.
