Ellsworth energy team saves money, earns award
Contractors pour concrete at the propane air mix plant in preparation for the installation of four new tanks, each capable of holding 60,000 gallons of propane, Sept. 29 at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D. The 28th Civil Engineer Squadron Energy Management Team at Ellsworth AFB received a 2006 Federal Energy and Water Management Award from the U.S. Department of Energy for saving more than $470,000 in total energy costs for fiscal 2005. The plant, completed in December 1998, was part of the first contract partnership between Ellsworth AFB and Montana Dakota Utilities and still saves Ellsworth more than $1 million annually.
