New capability improves search, rescue response
Pararescuemen from the 347th Rescue Group at Moody Air Force Base, Ga., prepare to extract "survivors" during "Kangaroo Duck" training recently in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Apalachicola, Fla. The K-Duck is an inflatable raft that is strapped to the underbelly of a rescue helicopter so it can be easily dropped to better assist with water-rescue scenarios like those experienced during Hurricane Katrina.
