Winter race

KNIK, ALASKA (AFPN) -- Maj. Tom Knolmayer waves to spectators at the start of the Knik 200 Sled Dog Race. Major Knolmayer and his nine-dog team finished the 200 mile race in 25 hours and 43 minutes, including a mandatory six hour rest stop for the dogs. The major was the first active-duty military member to complete the 1,100 mile Iditarod Sled Dog Race last year. He is planning to compete in this years' Iditarod. Major Knolmayer is the 3rd Medical Group's chief of surgery at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Keith Brown)
