UAVs hunt tree disease
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AFPN) -- Cadet Erin Heintz works with pine needles in the biology department here. The Air Force Academy Biology Department is working to determine a correlation between the infrared signature and the water potential of the ponderosa pine needle. They can then fly an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle over the local pine trees with a sensor that can detect which trees have been infected by measuring the amount of moisture in the pine needles.
