Air traffic controllers perform dual mission, put fighters on target
ALI BASE, Iraq -- (Left to right) Senior Airman Paul Oceanak monitors the radar scope while Senior Airman Megan Lister teaches Senior Airman Bobbie Tenney how to juggle both civil and combat air traffic. Putting fighters on target is a first for the crew of controllers who direct airplane traffic within 50,000 square miles surrounding Ali Base. The three Airmen are area control center controllers with the 407th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt. Maurice Hessel)
