Airmen spruce up living space for retirees displaced by Katrina
WASHINGTON -- After a long two-day bus drive, military retirees were greeted by more than 100 military and civilian volunteers Sept. 1. The volunteers helped in-process more than 400 veterans from Gulfport, Miss. The veterans were displaced by the effects of Hurricane Katrina and will be housed at the retirement home until their facility can be repaired, which is estimated to take more than a year.
